A $400-class collector's box arrives, and the game is not inside
Reported September 24, 2026
Rockstar has put a collector's item on its own store: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a limited-run box priced at €399.99. It is stuffed with themed merchandise: a figure of Macca the alligator, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a fanny pack, an adjustable cap, a magnetic mirror, a shot glass, a cocktail spoon, a knife-style keyring, enamel pins in a tin, stickers and a double-sided map poster of Leonida.
The catch is written in the small print of the product page: the game is sold separately. Fans reacted with a mix of disbelief and irritation, since the box costs several times more than the game itself. It is not a new move for the studio, either: the collector's box for Red Dead Redemption 2 also shipped without a copy of the game.
Our take: think of it as a merchandise drop, not an "edition". If you only want the game, nothing changes for you. If you want the box, budget for both purchases.
Take-Two: no recurring spending, and this is a single-player game
Reported September 17, 2026
At Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting, chairman Strauss Zelnick told investors the company does not expect recurring spending from players in GTA VI. Reporters read that as a sign the game will not have a microtransaction store. The extra spending option that does exist is the Ultimate Edition, which adds access to exclusive shops with unique vehicles and cosmetics. Players who start on the standard version can reportedly upgrade later through a €20 pack, which matches the price gap between the two editions.
Zelnick also described GTA VI as a single-player game and said GTA Online will keep being supported after launch. Put together, that means no multiplayer mode at release.
Our take: a "no recurring spending" statement is a company expectation, not a legal promise. It is good news, but worth re-checking once the store pages go live.
PC: "later" is not "never"
Reported September 18, 2026
Shareholders asked again about a PC version, and Zelnick answered carefully. His line, in essence: over time the company wants its games on every platform with a large audience, and PC matters more to Take-Two every year. He added that on a big release, PC can now account for close to half of total sales, compared with roughly one-twentieth for a big sports franchise when he joined the company in 2007.
No date was given. Some commentators speculate that a PC launch could line up with a new online mode, but that is guesswork, not an announcement.
Our take: the numbers explain why PC keeps coming up. Still, until Rockstar names a date, plan around the console launch.
GTA Online: Rockstar is quiet, Twitch is not
Reported September 17–18, 2026
Rockstar has said nothing about a new online mode. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, however, told an audience that the platform has spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about its plans, and suggested viewership would spike at launch and then rise even higher next year when multiplayer arrives. That is an outsider's comment, not a confirmation, but it lines up with the "no multiplayer at launch" message from Take-Two.
Our take: treat 2027 as a rumour with a credible source, not as a date.
The soundtrack shows up before the game does
Reported around September 17, 2026
Rockstar confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, an official soundtrack made with well-known artists, available on vinyl and CD. The irony noted by the press: the game's own physical copy contains only a download code, so the album may be the only disc with the GTA VI name at launch. Read the album guide.
