GTA VI Editions and Prices Explained: What You Really Pay
With Grand Theft Auto VI arriving on November 19, 2026, the most practical question is also the most confusing one: which version do you actually need, and what is the real total? Here is what has been reported so far, in plain English. Prices are the euro figures reported for Spain and may differ in your region.
The two versions of the game
The Standard Edition is reported at €79.99. The Ultimate Edition is reported at €99.99. The extra €20 does not buy a bigger story. According to reporting from 3DJuegos, the Ultimate Edition adds access to a set of exclusive in-game shops where players can obtain unique vehicles and cosmetic items.
That matters because of what Take-Two said next. At its annual shareholder meeting, chairman Strauss Zelnick reminded investors that the company does not anticipate recurring spending from players in GTA VI. Many outlets read this as a sign that the game will not have a traditional microtransaction store, leaving the Ultimate Edition as the main paid extra.
Can you upgrade later?
Yes, reportedly. Players who buy the standard version can move up through an upgrade pack on the PlayStation and Xbox stores, priced at €20, which is exactly the gap between the two editions. In practice, that removes the pressure to decide on day one: you are not penalised for starting with the cheaper version.
The collector's box is a different product
Rockstar's The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection costs €399.99 and, despite the name, is not a game edition. Its product page states that the game is sold separately. Inside are physical items themed on Leonida: a figure of Macca the alligator, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a fanny pack, an adjustable cap, a magnetic mirror, a shot glass, a cocktail spoon, a knife-style keyring, enamel pins in a tin, stickers, and a double-sided map poster.
Add the game and the real total becomes clear:
- Box + Standard Edition: €479.98
- Box + Ultimate Edition: €499.98
Fans were split on the announcement. Some are happy to see merchandise; many objected to paying that much for a box without the game. It is worth noting that Rockstar did the same with Red Dead Redemption 2, whose collector's box also shipped without the game.
What about the soundtrack?
Rockstar has also confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, an official soundtrack made with well-known artists, available on vinyl and CD. It is a separate purchase and has nothing to do with the game editions.
So which should you buy?
- You want the story and the open world. The Standard Edition covers it. You can upgrade later for €20 if you change your mind.
- You want the exclusive vehicles and cosmetics from day one. Choose the Ultimate Edition.
- You collect merchandise. The box is a keepsake, not an edition. Decide on it separately from the game.
