GTA VI Release Date and Delay Timeline: Everything Confirmed

Updated September 28, 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Getting here took almost five years, so it helps to see the whole path in one place, with confirmed milestones kept apart from rumours. As of September 28, there are 52 days left.

Why the gaps matter

Rockstar is known for long silences followed by bursts of activity, and the numbers show it. Between the first and second trailers, and again between the second trailer and the Extended Look, more than a year passed with little official material. Then, once the date was locked, the pace changed: in the 12 weeks between the Extended Look and launch, Rockstar is running pre-orders, a soundtrack, a collector's box and a pre-load.

Why was it delayed?

Rockstar's public explanation both times was quality: more time to polish. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the studio also wanted to avoid brutal crunch for the first delay. Outlets count the delays differently, with some saying one and others two, depending on how they treat the moves from fall 2025 to May 2026 and then to November 2026. Either way, the date has not changed since November 2025.

How Rockstar's past releases handled platforms

The console-first pattern is not new. This context is useful when people ask about a PC version:

Our read

This is analysis, not an announcement. Showing nearly half an hour of near-final gameplay, opening pre-orders and setting a pre-load date are commitments that are hard to reverse, and Take-Two has tied the date to its financial outlook. That makes another delay unlikely, but not impossible. Until Rockstar or Take-Two says otherwise, treat every "delayed again" post as a rumour.
